Art is a powerful tool in communication, expression, discipline, and more. One of my favorite ways to put my art-making skills into practice is through the act of gift-giving. Collage Care Baskets asks students to learn and practice collage, observational thinking, and the artistic practice in the framework of generosity and personal reflection. Before beginning of the final project, students decide the recipient of their care basket—whether a friend, family member, or even themselves. Through the making process, students continue to think about love, community, and intentionality—as valuable as any technical learning.
